Find and eliminate duplicate images in your photo library using intelligent perceptual hashing that identifies matching images even when they've been resized, recompressed, or slightly edited. Unlike simple file hash comparison that only catches exact byte-for-byte copies, perceptual hashing compares actual visual content—finding duplicates even when one version is a 1000px thumbnail and another is the original 5000px file.
The algorithm generates a compact fingerprint for each image based on its visual characteristics rather than file bytes. Images are scaled, converted to grayscale, and analyzed for structural patterns that survive compression and resizing. Similar fingerprints indicate visually similar images. The similarity threshold controls match strictness—higher values require near-identical images, while lower values catch images with minor edits, color variations, or different compression levels. Results group duplicates together with previews showing dimensions and file sizes for informed keep/delete decisions.
Photographers cleaning up libraries with years of accumulated duplicates reclaim significant storage space. Designers auditing project assets identify redundant files consuming disk space. Content managers organizing downloaded image collections find copies scattered across different folders. Anyone managing large image collections who suspects hidden duplicates can identify them without manual comparison. All processing happens locally in your browser, keeping your photos private while comparing potentially thousands of images.
