Flip Vertical

Mirror images vertically, swapping top and bottom to create a reflection along the horizontal axis. Every pixel exchanges position with its vertical counterpart—the top row becomes the bottom row, and vice versa. Like horizontal flipping, the operation is mathematically lossless.

Vertical flipping creates an upside-down mirror image as if the subject were reflected in a horizontal mirror (like water reflection). This transformation is less commonly needed than horizontal flipping but serves specific technical and creative purposes. Combined with horizontal flip, the effect equals 180° rotation.

Designers creating water reflection effects flip landscape portions to simulate reflective surfaces. Photographers correcting images from inverted camera mounts (microscopes, certain security cameras, periscope setups) restore proper orientation. Print production teams preparing images for specific printing processes requiring inverted input flip images appropriately.
